Rob will be leading Geoheritage (Geology, Archaeology, and ancient rock art) and Battlefield tours in and around the highest peak of the 120km long Magaliesberg range.

Guest will have the opportunity to discover a 1.7-million-year-old stone tool workshop, a unique ancient ‘Ringing Rock’ and monolith site, and the most important battlefield of the guerrilla phase of the South African War – The Battle of Nooitgedacht fought on 13th December 1900.

Rob was born in Johannesburg where he completed his schooling and tertiary education.  From an early age, he spent most of his free time in the veld exploring South African battlefields and historic places, developing a keen interest in South African wars, archaeology and geology.

He has published two editions of his book “Anecdotes of the Anglo-Boer War” both locally and internationally and is currently completing the third edition.  He is also writing “Magaliesberg Battlefields” which covers the more than 65 battle and skirmish sites along the route, as well as “Secret Africa – African Hills” which is about the unique geology and ancient rock art sites at the Plumari Private Reserve on which African Hills Safari Lodge & Spa is situated.

Rob is a registered cultural and site tour guide (GP5927) – the first to be registered in the speciality ‘The Greater Magaliesberg Battlefields Tourist Route and is looking forward to welcoming you on one of his battlefield tours.
